Pretend that you have 5 villagers queued up in the town center. Say you're creating brand new villagers from the town center, how do you automatically assign the newly created villager to farm the next open. Maybe you are building your farms too far apart from each other. If you have 10 villagers and 8 farms, 8 villagers will get a farm and 2 will idle after all farms are taken.
If you have 10 villagers and 10 farms, you right click one farm, and each villager will end up having its own farm.
